High Street work gets under way Print E-mail
Work to upgrade Oxford's historic city centre is set to cause disruption to traffic over the next ten weeks.

Resurfacing work is being carried out and new lights and bollards installed on the High Street.

The work, between Merton Street and Magdalen Bridge, is part of a major upgrade and is expected to be finished by the end of March.

Some bus services have been re-routed and motorists are being advised to use alternative routes.

Further work is also planned between the bridge and the Plain roundabout and between Turl Street and Longwall Street.

The first phase of work to remove "unnecessary" clutter from the city centre was completed in November last year.

Traders in the High Street were encouraged to remove obtrusive signs and Highway signage was reduced to preserve the street's historic feel.

The upgrade is expected to be completed in 2008.
