THE Met Office is warning of a return of severe gales through this week, with winds possibly gusting more than 80 mph, followed by a change to much colder weather at the weekend.
A spokesman said the focus of concern was turning to Wednesday night and into Thursday, when severe gales are forecast to affect many areas.
The strongest winds are likely to occur over much of England and Wales, bringing the potential for more disruption.
A change in the weather is then forecast, with much lower temperatures and the threat of snow for northern and eastern areas of Britain, before drier, brighter and frosty weather sets in for next week.
Information on weather warnings and how to plan for severe weather is available at the Met Office website by clicking here.
The forecast for this winter points to an increase in the frequency of cold snaps through the second half of the winter.
