Yes, the USA certainly is the front runner for random violence and murder. (that was sarcasm) Don't we just lead the way in senseless violence and killing?
Why have guns available? So we don't become serfs and slaves like so many other countries are. An unarmed population is a lot easier to keep subdued than one where people can arm themselves *if they so choose*. True, we are too controlled by our government as it is. We have given away so many of the rights we fought for when we got our freedom from England. But we are still free to bear arms, unlike most other countries. Yes, there are stupid and crazy people that turn those arms against others. But if guns aren't available, crazy people will STILL find ways to kill others. Hey, wasn't the London subway blown up last year? They didn't use guns, and look how many people died.
It is horrifying and tragic that this happened. But it isn't a reason to ban guns. Using that reasoning, we should also ban the use of cars - look how many people die needlessly each year because of an idiot driver. Yet no one talks about removing this huge source of senseless killing and destruction, because too much of the population depends on their cars. Oh, and lots of people make money from the sales of cars, fuel, mandatory insurance and other accessories.
