Probably isn't that much money... running a website is fairly cheap compared to other ways of communicating with the public.
I also think that being familiar with the police helps you connect with and humanize them. Knowing that your police are people too, with families and outside lives might make you think twice about being extra rude or difficult if you have a run in with the law.
They are just out doing their job, which is sometimes hard because it involve stopping the "fun" of some. It is a difficult task and I am glad that our bobbies are out there getting the job done. Besides, there are a lot of crimes that get processed that most ,except those involved, don't even know about. I am happy our bobbies are protecting us even when we aren't aware of the threat.
