Re:Support the Tuckers - 28/05/08 11:15 Trucker Dave I think the issue is $130+ per barrell of oil. Considering this is global, what do the truckers expect the government to do?

I guess that is why truckers are truckers.
Should we also think of switching our rail infrastructure to solely electric, as diesel will become far less economical.

I dont think the issue is $130+ per barrel of oil the issue the tax on it.

The official Duty Rate is £0.5035 per Litre with VAT of 17.5% added to the cost of product and duty. Soo tax is nearer 68%.
Cost of Petrol at £1.15 would breakdown as follows:
50.35p Duty, Product 37.35p, VAT 17.13p Retailer/Delivery 10.17p
Cost of Diesel at £1.27.9p Duty 50.35p, Product 45.98p, VAT 19.05p Retailer/delivery 12.52p.
Where does all this tax go I hear you say?

MP's second homes, expenses and taxi's for their spouses shopping trips!

Re:Support the Tuckers - 28/05/08 11:30 The fuel crisis is global, its beyond any one person, government or groups control (the OPEC cartel boosting production might have an effect - temporarily). Fuel is a finite resource and it's running out quickly.

Everyone (all over the world!) is frustrated with rising costs, but striking won't fix anything

That said, it would be interesting to see what happened if you guys blocked up the roads with your trucks in protest... My guess is you would spend the night in a cell.

Re:Support the Tuckers - 28/05/08 11:31 Wow Karen didn't think of it much till i saw the break down of the tax we pay...

My support to the hauliers. The high price of fuel affects all. greedy companies that no thought for the ordinary.

I also feel that this government is using the issue of pollution and the climate change to get more monies from the British public seeing as how we have less carbon footprint then other countries and these other countries are not making as big an issue of this. For me its just another way for this government to do what it has been doing since it got to power and that is to tax us as much as they can in as many different ways as they can.

Maybe it's time to look into a career change Trucker Dave!

Katie yes the fuel crisis is global but You're totally missing the point. The issue is that the current price is nothing like "the real price" because of the huge amount of duty.

I support like the rest of population agree with Strike.
