Please will everyone take a deep breath and think for a moment: teachers are human beings, pretty much the same as everyone else. This is what the public seems to expect - *Teachers will enforce discipline in school without telling anyone off or raising their voices *Teachers will select the brightest pupils without making the others feel less worthy *Teachers will give 'inspiring' lessons whilst dealing with children with behavioural problems *Teachers will be polite at all times, whilst being verbally (and sometimes physically) abused by parents and pupils *Teachers will carry out government policy as regards education, even when they don't actually know what that policy is (believe me, I've experienced this) *Teachers will encourage children to be 'creative' whilst teaching spelling, tables and grammar... *and so on... There are just not enough people about who are good at Maths, English, etc, also inspiring public speakers, who love kids and can enforce discipline all at the same time. And such paragons are unlikely to accept the sort of salaries and work conditions currently available to teachers. So, whatever parents and government ministers may want, they will have to make do with what there are, ie, ordinary people. Get used to it!
