Re:How ya doing, Striker? - 10/10/06 02:15
Doing better. I am getting around now on cruches (sort of ) . I have about 5-10 degrees of motion back... Not going to be kicking a ball anytime soon.
My doctor has me doing some simple leg bending excercises every few hours. While sitting in a chair (my leg out straight) I have to try to bring my heel in. I also have to do circles with my ankles. The excercises aren't too bad because I get to have my bandages and brace off (as long as I am careful). It gives my skin a chance to breath. My skin is starting to feel uncomfortable. Reminds me when I was a kid and broke my wrist... I hated that cast.
The hardest part is probably the crutches. While I am on the crutches I have to wear a heavy duty brace I was given. Using the crutches I get to hobble around to places. Crutches help you develop a general hatred towards stairs, polished hard wood floors, loose gravel and carpets... I have a whole new awareness now to what is like to be movement impaired and try to go about a "normal" life.
I have turned off the tele and turned to reading. I have read "The Great Gatsby" by Fitzgerald, "Catch 22" by Heller and Part of a Harry Potter book. (Harry Potter is a little more fun to read...)
