Re:Drink or Obesity which is worse then smoking? - 19/10/07 20:20
The government should just STOP telling us how to live our lives, STOP telling us what to buy and what not to buy, STOP worrying about what we consume, STOP worrying about global warming, STOP interfering in the business of other soveriegn states, and just GET ON with governing the UK in its national interest, so that we all earn loads of money and all the less fortunate folk are well looked after.
The obvious next step would be, make ID cards become mandatory for making an age-related purchase (ie alcohol or cigarettes), track all sales, and offer compulsory "treatment" for people who regularly buy in excess of their allowed limit.
We very nearly have the apparatus in place for this kind of intrusive surveillance and that fact is why reports like this need to be shouted down, before the nanny state can use some people's free will lifestyle choices to enforce further controls on us all.
What next? Firstly, it was binge drinking, then it was underage drinking, warnings of excess unit drinking, smoking ban - next it will be spot checks in your own homes! Why can't the time and money being spent on this sort of thing be spent on something more useful like fighting crime!
What about looking into the causes of the drinking rather then just saying they drink too much?
How come we never see research saying the working classes are working too much?
Problems from stress, mental breakdowns, eye sight going from all this computer usuage, family trouble, more people finding the need for a crutch in alcohol?
