I was using desktop search too and just uninstalled it too.I really don't need it to be honest I don't think i would miss it.
I have used AVG for last 3 odd years and never had problems with it and it is free and it does good job then those paid ones. Here is a link if you want to download it.

Norton would be the last thing i would install my experience with Norton has not been good and i personally wouldn't use it even if they give it away free.
