Wow this really is an interesting mix of opinions!
I suppose my problem here is actually getting him to get help. It's all very well telling someone to 'buck up and smile' but I am pretty sure he has a chemical imbalance. It's been months of misery and there's no sign of him rejoining the world. It's too terrible to watch from the sidelines.
Any idea's how to broach the subject of help/making change with an "old school" man?
